Kara Lewt
Long run in Kara last night, but good. I was so tired last night, but managed to make it through the whole run. Lewt:
I had to cancel Gruuls for tonight. Too much homework, that has to always come before WoW now. Blah.

When I picked up breakfast this morning at McDonalds, they forgot to put the egg in my sausage egg McMuffin. Eh, doesn’t matter, as long as they are nice. I am still getting over the difference between the mannerisms between Florida folk and Georgia folk. Florida folks are more like angry wild animals. They never look at each other in the eye, and they find people are weird if one would strike up a random conversation with them. Florida folks are always in a hurry, and they always view a stranger, or something else as a focus of danger, staying away from that source as much as possible or yelling obscenities at it to make it go away on it’s own. I sort of imagine that’s what NYC is like.
Georgia on the other hand is a lot different. It’s rare not to be greeted with a smile, and people are always using their please and thank you’s even at such places like McDonalds or gas stations. Striking up a random conversation with someone is welcomed, and randomly waving at the neighbors you haven’t met yet is expected. It just seems, everyone here, in the “real” south are just happier people. I still haven’t gotten a homemade pie yet from my neighbors, what’s the deal? Well, at least I’ve halfway met my neighbors. I didn’t even know the ones in Hollywood the whole time living there.
The other great thing about Georgia is the wind. It isn’t windy. Maybe it can be breezy at times, but we’re talking 5-10 mph breeze at MOST. Otherwise, they would consider it a storm. And the storms are beautiful here. We have skylights in our living room, and to see the lightening through them is magical.
I have a few more idea’s about getting my Vista computer working. Seems that losing Internet connectivity is commonplace when I do a search around the forums, it’s just finding “the” solution that actually works for you. Not to say I’m not taking home an XP disk just in case. Damn Vista. The only reason I’m even thinking about giving it a second chance is because of the long hours of install and re-set up I’ll have to do. Not to mention re-installing wow. That’s a chore in itself.
Vista can kiss my ass. I’m so sick of dealing with the constant problems. Not that I can’t fix each and every problem that comes up, but enough is enough. I’m tired of fixing EVERYTHING. Seriously. My patience has outgrown Vista. So, tomorrow, I will start my process of backing everything up and reinstalling XP where there is no random annoying pop up asking me if I “Allow” or “Deny” (I know I can shut that off, but, whatever)
I just hope that XP plays nice with Quad Core. Don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t.
What a pain. And to top things off, I have lots of homework to do. I don’t need this right now, especially with my limited time.
Two pastimes of the day I could seriously do without are sleep, and bathroom breaks. I wish I could eliminate those from my life. Stupid waste of times activities.
It’s been such a busy week. My Mother has been here all week helping unpack. Her and Ken also brought all my stuff I left behind in Colorado when I moved to Florida. As a birthday surprise, she also brought my piano to me. It’s great having furniture again.
Had a little bit of trouble with the Internet. It wasn’t until yesterday I finally got it figured out. When I connected up the router the cable modem would never release the IP to it. So, I tried everything, except the one thing that finally worked. I turned off the cable modem and router and computers so many times I was getting bored. I finally disconnected the modem for 15+ minutes to force it to release it’s IP then when I plugged it back in it gave my router an IP like transferring the flu. Then everything worked. It’s a little late however, because I had a school assignment due tonight that I ran out of time to do. I’m also working the night shift tonight and working the weekend.
I’m going to take a break in the scheduled programming to grab me some ice cream. I finally live in a place that has blue bell ice cream, FINALLY!

Jen: I’m blogging this
We are finally moved into our new house! It’s been a long and exhausting week. We managed to get everything packed. I hired some movers to pack up the moving truck .. and boy did they do a very good job. They had that truck packed so good and tight that the truck was only half full. They ended up taking some of the things and leveling it out so that items didn’t shift. We ended up sleeping on the floor that night and woke up with sore backs. Finally, the big drive. Brendan was in lead with the moving truck, and I followed with Jonah and Neves in the car with me. They couldn’t have been better road trip buddies. Neves slept in the back seat the whole time and Jonah lazily looked out the window in the front seat, sometimes sleeping on my arm. It was very cute.
We finally got into Kennesaw Georgia around 11pm. Talk about being tired! Brendan dragged in the twin mattress for us to sleep on so we didn’t have to sleep on the floor again.
Yesterday was my birthday, and Mom and Ken arrived with another moving van full of my stuff I had in my old house. Not only that, but I got a very nice birthday present. My Mother is finally giving me my piano. I haven’t seen it for so long, and it’s going to be in my house. I can’t believe it, I cried when I saw it. It was a great emotion filled moment.
Right now I have people moving the piano, the 350 pound TV, all the heavy furniture, my hope chest into the house. It’s sort of up to Brendan and my Mother on where it goes. I wish I wasn’t missing all the excitement but someone has to bring home the bacon.
Mom is staying for the whole week. Out of our 4 bedrooms, I think we’ll have room to put her. It’s finally looking like a house, everything is finally coming together. It’s like magic. I’ll go home tonight and I’ll have a living room, a bedroom, a guest bedroom … Brendan will have his studio and his little office. When I left the house was almost empty.
Another magical moment came when Brendan and I were sitting outside the other night and noticed this twinkling in the back yard. Next thing we know, the whole backyard started twinkling. Lightening Bugs! It was beautiful.
I never want to move again.
I was on the phone with one of our clients help desk staff, opening a ticket with the first girl I’ve ever heard answer the phone. Being a fellow woman in IT, I was excited they had expanded their staff. This girl, Debbie, took down my info about an issue and because it was one of those “we don’t control it but we know who does” issues, she needed to assign the ticket to someone there in office, because she couldn’t assign the ticket to the “we know who does” person.
It was like listening to me on the other end. She was explaining to a male tech there what she was doing (because I told her I needed a ticket # no matter what), and he sat there and argued with her, questioned her, re-defined the “we don’t control it but we know who does” like she didn’t already know the in’s and out’s (she didn’t sound new, I just hadn’t spoken with her yet), then made it seem like his idea and said “why don’t you just assign it to me” when that was her first statement before any conversation started. Had he responded with a “yes” then she wouldn’t have had to endure 5 minutes of being put down intellectually.
This is such a common trait when dealing with the differences of men and woman in IT. I know that I have been treated like that more often than not. Being a predominately male profession, woman have taken the bull by the horns and it makes me happy to see that. I still see the discrimination pretty much everywhere I go, however. Men don’t like to be “less of a man” with women in their former “domain” and I can see how that would be threatening, but it’s not 1950 anymore. Woman do have brains too.
Where is the time? Everything is falling into place as it should. Brendan and I are back in Florida at the moment, but not for long. We’re leaving with the moving van this Thursday or Friday. Our NEW fridge (that they dented up when bringing it in) will be arriving on Saturday so we have to be at the new house for that.
Neves was great when we got home. A bit needy, from missing us (he actually let me hold him like a baby for a few hours), but he ate his food, drank his water and tough out the week long absence of his masters (er, peasants?) We got Jonah back yesterday. He’s his same old self too. We were worried. When Brendan and I got married and went on our honeymoon, we had him boarded at the vets office. He came back completely traumatized. He hadn’t eaten, he lost so much weight. He would sleep for days and days, and just looked depressed. If a dog can smile, he wasn’t smiling. The closest thing I can describe it as is the doggie fetal position rocking included. Not this time. He’s happy. GOOD!
Lemme see. I feel pretty useless with this whole moving thing, except for the organizing of it. I hurt my back pretty bad a few months back and doc told me not to lift anything heavier then my purse. Just traveling and carrying the laptop bag re-injured it already, so I feel helpless. Brendan is doing a great job packing, and I have movers coming out to load the truck. Oy, it’s all happening so quickly.
I’m worried about ma Cam. She needs to be with her hubby-to-be and I don’t know how to make that happen for her. I hate when things are sometimes impossible.
I just got tagged by Cam so I must do this or the Intrawebs will hate me forever.
The game is thus:
The 8 facts:
I hardly have anyone to tag, let alone 8 people. I’m tagging:
So, my site got hacked. I noticed I couldn’t post to my blog today, then I looked at what was really going on. Sigh. Hacked. Again.
I know it’s my fault. I should have did something when I first set up my new blog, but I didn’t. I just spent most of the time getting things set up and looking nice. Lucky for me I had a back up copy, but the comments have been deleted.
Dear Hackers,
Please stop. Mmkay, thanks.
Jenny
So there are obviously holes in the new Wordpress 2.2. I gotta find out what those are and fix em. In the meantime, time to start backups of my blog.
I have so much I need to get done on the computer and the Interwebs. Hopefully I can tackle a big portion of that this weekend between being on call for work.
I think that’s it.
I’m on the verge of falling asleep any moment now, but I’ve just gotten here to work, and I have a full day ahead of me. How is this possible? Well, because I worked the weekend and I happen to get calls all night last night, leaving sleep to be non-existent and something of a luxury. I’d give anything to be home right now, sleeping.
I can’t remember when I get a day off next. This weekend I’m traveling. Next weekend I’m traveling. The weekend after that, I’m moving. The weekend after that, I’m working. So, we’re looking at another month possibly? That’s insane. WTB day off, PST!!
I’m due for another vacation I think.
About that list of things to do. Well, I didn’t get any of them done, except for one. I got Byte to level 62
She’s flying through quests left and right. The only quests she has in Hellfire is the group quests. Her played time is 12 days, 17 hours. She’s spent a lot of idle time there, obviously.
I’m fighting over the idea of getting a dell laptop. I’ve gone through 3 different laptops at work because they have all been broken “give em back to tech support” and well, they eventually “broke” … So, now I’m asking for a new laptop. If that doesn’t happen, and because I hate going through laptops only to see them break, I think I might just buy myself one. I’ve been using one of our new Dell Inspiron 6400’s that came in a week or so ago. It’s nice, it would be perfect. I don’t think they are that expensive. I’ll have to check on that today.
God I’m tired.
