My Christmas

I want my Christmas back. As the previous post displayed, I was sick. I was having some pretty intense abdominal pain that went all the way around to my back, but it was only on the right side. It felt like when I had my gall bladder attach back in 2003, when I got my gall bladder removed.

All sorts of thoughts were running in my head. Could it be my appendices? Did they, by some freak accident botch my previous gall bladder surgery? I called Mom and she told Brendan to take me to the ER, stat!

I ended up going into the hospital Christmas day and being released the morning of the 26th. Turns out, I have a pretty bad kidney infection. I was given fluids and anti-biotics via IV and some pain medication. They sent me home the next morning with 15 days of anti-biotics and some Oxycodone for the pain. The first few days I would only wake up every 6 hours, the pain telling me it was time for another pill. Sitting up for more then an hour or two is still pretty uncomfortable but I am feeling better. The pain went from an 8 to a 6 now, so I think the anti-biotics are finally starting to work.

So that was/is my Christmas break, I feel jipped! I want a re-do!

I love you I hate you don’t leave me!

Along with lazy co-workers (or is it not to bright co-workers?) I’ve had to deal with some passive/aggressive behaviors from some friends. You know, the I-miss-you-don’t-speak-to-me passive/aggressive behavior. To be honest, I don’t bite or react to that type of behavior anymore, especially when it’s become so common place lately. It’s not that I don’t care, or that I’m being cold or cruel, it’s just that I don’t reward bad behavior. I don’t even allow that type of behavior with my husband, let alone my friends.

I love my friends, and I adore my friends. Not all my friends have it all together, and most days even I don’t have it all together, but it doesn’t mean I don’t adore them any less. Even when they are acting out with such behavior, I adore them all the same, I just don’t participate or enable this type of behavior. Honestly, I just don’t have the energy for the roller-coaster.

So to all my friends, passive/aggressive or not, I wish you a very happy holiday, and a happy new year.

Can you help me help you? Please?

You know what’s extremely frustrating? People who don’t even try to read directions, or do things for themselves. They just ask other people without putting any work into finding the answer.

I created a wiki here at work, for easy access to FAQ’s, procedures, bug fixes, and contacts. I have one co-worker that not only refuses to bookmark the site, but will ask me, Jen, what is the number for so and so. Jen, this site is getting timeout errors. Each and every time, with the upmost patience I direct him to the wiki site, and step by step I show him how he can find this huge database of information right at his finger tips. It never fails, 10 minutes later, the wiki is closed and he’s asking another question that seeks an answer, and ironically that answer is found on page one of the wiki. The same page that comes up each and every time he clicks on that wiki link.

Sigh.

Great memories in WoW

Upon reflection of some past times and present times in the World of Warcraft.

When my mage hit 70.

When my rogue eventually hits 70 (she’s 56 now).

Gosh I miss raiding. A lot. But School just has to be on my most important list right now.

I see rudeness.

Everyone that knows me knows that I think Apple makes great products, and being an avid Microsoft user for over a decade, and buying apple products for nearly as long, I think I’m pretty educated on making and basing my opinions on factual circumstance and use. Think different. Apple definitely does that, however they are the minority. I wish everyone had the guts and balls to do the same. Everyone that also knows me knows it’s a dream of mine to work at Google someday, due to the fact that they care about their employees, they make the environment excellent for work, and they are always encouraging new idea’s and projects. Me, I love projects, and I love working on them, but I work on many at the same time to feed my ADD mind. The Google creed is “do no evil” … however, that can be argued by anyone due to opinion and perception of the phrase.

Everyone is also entitled to their own opinion on anything they believe in, but don’t call me to tell me how much you hate these particular companies and go on for 20 + minutes about how bad and insignificant they are, claiming they are the worst companies ever. Especially in knowing how much I believe in these two companies. Not only is that inappropriate and rude, but it’s a direct reflection on how you feel about myself.

kthxbye.

This quarter is over! Grades came back ..

Well, this quarter is over and I got my grades back.

grades1

I just need to keep it up. Google does take a look at your over all grades and GPA, as well as grades for individual classes. It’s worth it. Class doesn’t start again till the 21st (day my Mother gets here for Thanksgiving) but I can log in on the 19th.

Only one more year left!

Are you a honker?

Interesting things happen on my drive into work but I’m usually not awake enough to retain those incidents into memory until I have a chance to blog about it. I just happen to retain that this morning, by whatever means.

So I’m sitting at a red light this morning, in the left lane next to the turn lane headed southbound and this long line of cars pull up wanting to turn. The green arrow comes on for the left turn lane and not even a second went by when someone starts honking at the end of the line, about the same time the first car starts making the left hand turn.

I’m torn when it comes to honking. I’ll sure do it if it’s obvious someone isn’t paying attention and really doesn’t see the green arrow, but this is after I see the person looking down or somewhere else other then stop light, and this is after maybe 5 seconds. I one of those that gets out their iPod or iPhone and changes a song, or checks text messages at a red light because frankly, I get a little bored after a minute or two. In this situation this morning, it was a little different. The person that honked, was just honking for the joy of pissing people off, or maybe to release frustration not otherwise related to waiting a whole second before actually moving. No, this guy that honked this morning was just a jerk. The honk wasn’t directed toward me, but I felt sorry for the car in the front of the line, because after all, it’s morning and how many people are really awake first thing in the morning? Isn’t that what the mad morning rush for coffee is all about?

If you are a honker, maybe you should stop and think about it a little before pressing on that horn. Are you really trying to make everyone else’s morning as bad as yours, or are you just angry? Don’t be a jerk, mmkay?

CTU Supports the iPhone

I can log into my classes at CTU on my iPhone:

My dream is to work at Google

Everyone who knows me (mostly) knows that my ultimate dream is to work at Google. Every once and a while I’ll go to their job site to see if there is anything new and/or exciting. First place I usually head to is the student section where jobs are advertised for new graduates, because one day I will be a new graduate. Google never fails to deliver.

In my visit this morning I learned they have a Google HQ in Atlanta. That is just way too cool. This is just a dream for me now, but one day I hope to accomplish it and for that to happen we would have to move. Again. I hate moving. This solves everything.

So, thank you Google.

Today in news

Friday doesn’t bring good news to Demoniod today. Trackers are still live however, so they are anticipating a demoniod return. Only one line displays on the demonoid site right now ..

The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

Yay for UK people getting the iPhone. iPhone update today too! For jailbreak users, don’t download because the TIFF exploit has been patched.

One-click Jailbreak for 1.1.1 (Windows)

Since I updated my phone to firmware 1.1.1 missed my other applications. I knew I didn’t want to revert back to 1.0.2 and the whole process seemed a little painful to be honest. I found this one-click Jailbreak guide and it worked great on the first try. Just make sure you follow the step by step instructions and reboot your iPhone every time it asks. There is one time it asks you to reboot your iPhone twice in a row. DO IT!

One-click Jailbreak for 1.1.1 (Windows)

Oh ya. Enjoy and have fun!!!!

This is what my iPhone looks like now.

Updated to firmware 1.1.1 – Success! Sorta.

Well, I updated my phone today (partly on accident since I wasn’t paying much attention) to 1.1.1 .. and … when it came back up, it said “Please Activate iPhone”

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Then it restarted again and told me it was activated. I was seriously scared for a moment. So my phone came back all nice and pretty and my third party applications were wiped out and the new wi-fi iTunes was sitting all pretty and purple on the 4th row.

The question is, so I jailbreak it again? Do I wait for Apple’s SDK? What 3rd party applications did I use a lot. Well ..

  1. iLight – I live in the woods, it’s very very dark in my house at night. Before bed when I’m turning off all the nights I use my iPhone as a flashlight
  2. NES – The new Nintendo Entertainment System emulator is really nice. They have sound working on it so I can pull out Mario Brothers or Zelda anytime I please. Or, I used to, before today.
  3. Sudoku – Ya, it’s just a fun game.

What is your favorite 3rd party iPhone app?

Garage Storage Solutions

When we bought our house I was pretty excited about the garage. It looked like the previous owners took their old kitchen cabinets out and hung them up on the wall in the garage. There is nothing better then having cabinets in a garage to organize seasonal stuff or to hang up dirty tools or tuck away those items you just don’t use every day.

I found this site that has all kinds of storage solutions that put my mismatched cabinets to shame. They have everything, right down to the checkered garage flooring. When I get the rest of our boxes unpacked I want my garage to look slick and organized with matching cabinets, custom built work benches, groovy pegboards, and my favorite is the Garage Refrigerators. If you are looking for something to make your garage another room in the house, Car Guy Garage is the place to go.

1 year wedding anniversary

One year ago today I got married to Brendan. I can’t believe it’s already been a year. I’ve learned quiet a few things about marriage.

1. Marriage is a work-in-progress. There is a reason there are so many divorces in this day and age. Marriage isn’t easy all the time. Marriage takes work, by both parties, but the rewards are absolutely wonderful.

2. Marriage has taught me how to appreciate one another. Most relationships I was in before I met my husband were pretty one sided. I was in love with them, and they were in love with themselves. Thus, the balance of the relationship wasn’t exactly on par. It take work on both sides, to appreciate each other for what they contribute no matter how big or small.

3. Marriage has taught me how to compromise. No two people are always going to agree on everything. It’s true, not even the happiest married couples. Being an only child I’ve never really had to “share” before or give over some control I’d otherwise hold onto. The only answer to avoid a crash course disaster was to compromise. It’s performed miracles.

4. Marriage is forever. I truly believe that. Unless being physically or emotionally abused in some way, any and all problems can be fixed and worked out in the end. I get great comfort in knowing that 5, 10, 20 years down the road I might not know where I will be in life, but I know my husband will be with me.

We got a wonderful card from my Mother, and my in-laws have called to wish us well. Happy Anniversary Brendan! And may we have happy years ahead :)

Thoughts of today ..

My Mother sends me lots of emails. Maybe once a month I’ll get one that is actually worth it. Here is her sending “Thoughts of the day” …

?A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes”.

Today has been a rough stressful day, and this quote applies so much.

Tag, your it!

I just got tagged by Cam so I must do this or the Intrawebs will hate me forever.

The game is thus:

  1. players start with 8 random facts about themselves
  2. those who are tagged should post these rules and 8 random facts about themselves
  3. then tag 8 other people and notify them that they have been tagged

The 8 facts:

  1. I have natural red hair
  2. I am the only child (stole this from Cam, and I don’t like it much either)
  3. I am adopted
  4. I’m a geek – It’s what I do
  5. I love geek gadgets, I think it’s an addiction
  6. I spend too much time playing World of Warcraft
  7. I can’t properly pronounce “Blood Pressure”
  8. My voice sounds like that of a 6 year old child.

I hardly have anyone to tag, let alone 8 people. I’m tagging:
